Today marks the anniversary of the first Doctor Who episode, which debuted on November 23, 1963. In this lesson, Olivia creates a picture of the TARDIS as it travels through time and space.

Buttons, a thimble, a matchbox, a clothespin... little things that you might have left lying around? 👀 These are the sort of things that the tiny people might "borrow" for their house under the kitchen floor! This habit of theirs has earned the simple title of “the Borrowers,” as they take all manner of bits and bobs to furnish their cozy little home.

In this LiterArture lesson inspired by "The Borrowers" by Mary Norton, we make a collage out of found objects: trinkets and other junk scattered around your house, and use them make a tiny sitting room with tables and chairs and all other things to live in!

The Reformation was a significant movement in the 16th century that changed the course of the church, faith, and even education. It began with a desire to bring the church back to its roots, focusing on the Bible and the teachings of Jesus, rather than man, and led to profound changes across Europe.

In 1517 a German monk named Martin Luther nailed a list of criticisms, known as the Ninety-Five Theses, to the door of a church in Wittenberg, Germany. Luther had been deeply troubled by the practices within the Catholic church, which involved selling indulgences (essentially, “tickets to heaven”) and wanted to bring attention to these corrupt practices.

Little did he know that his actions would spark a movement that would change the course of history…

“Tis the season for corn mazes, pumpkin spice everything, and – best of all – fall art projects! That’s where today’s woven pumpkin paintings come into the picture.

Never experimented with woven paper projects? The general idea is to create two versions of the same drawing or painting. After that, you cut the prepared pages into strips (one page in vertical strips and one in horizontal strips). Finally, you weave them together, securing the strips with glue in the process.

When it’s finished, you’ll be able to enjoy a fun twist on a traditional painting. And that’s exactly why we’re using this method to create our woven pumpkin paintings.
