In The Secret Garden, as Mary, Colin, and Dickon nurture the long neglected garden back to life, they discover a deeper truth: beauty and wonder are all around us — if only we have eyes to see. The above quote invites us to adopt this same outlook of optimism, perspective, and even delight.

Today is the last day of our 5 Days of The Secret Garden! In this project, we’ll bring these words to life through whimsical doodle lettering. In one of our most recent trips to England, we had the opportunity to wander the Yorkshire moors and experience the “wuthering” winds for ourselves. 😍

As we’ve been working on our 5 Days of The Secret Garden, I was reminded of this recording and just HAD to share it for your viewing pleasure. 🥰 We miss you jolly old England! 🇬🇧🩷

🌿✨ Welcome to Day 4 of our 5 Days of Secret G 🌿✨ Welcome to Day 4 of our 5 Days of Secret Garden! ✨🌿

Today, we’re venturing out onto the windswept, wutherin’ moors—the very landscape that shaped Mary Lennox’s transformation and the heart of the story’s natural magic. This is a day for noticing, for sketching and scribbling, and for pausing long enough to let the wild beauty of the world sink in. We’re opening our nature journals and learning about the flora and fauna that bring the Yorkshire landscape to life. Such as:

🌸 Heather Flower – soft purple blooms that blanket the moors in late summer, symbolizing solitude and resilience.

🌿 Gorse Bush – a spiny shrub with cheerful yellow flowers that bloom nearly year-round.

🌳 Rowan Tree (also called European Mountain Ash) – steeped in folklore and often seen as a protector, with its red berries and feathery leaves.

🐦 Mistle Thrush – a bold, melodious bird whose song often echoes over the hills, even in stormy weather.

Grab your pencils, your watercolors, or simply your sense of wonder — and let’s wander the moors together through the pages of our journals. 🖌️🍃

In The Secret Garden, Mary Lennox is fortunate enough to have Dickon—gentle, nature-wise, and full of plant knowledge. With his help, the once-forgotten garden begins to bloom again, and Mary learns the names and habits of every growing thing.

But let’s face it: most of us don’t have our own Dickon! So what’s a modern-day garden dreamer to do? Create our own plant markers so we don’t forget!

This project is simple enough for kids to join in and makes your garden feel like a magical, living story. Whether you’re planting lavender, foxglove, or forget-me-nots, your hand-painted plant markers become part of the tale you’re growing. With these markers, you won’t forget what’s blooming—and you’ll feel just a little bit more like Mary, tending her special, “bit of earth.”

Learn how to create your own garden markers in today's blog post!
🫖✨ Day 2: Tea Time in the Garden ✨🫖 Tod 🫖✨ Day 2: Tea Time in the Garden ✨🫖

Today, we’re setting the table for a cozy, English-inspired teatime—just the sort Mary Lennox might have shared at Misselthwaite Manor.

We’re talking tea & crumpets, a fitting choice for a story set on the Yorkshire moors. Never had a crumpet? These soft, golden rounds are a beloved teatime treat in England. Light and airy with little nooks perfect for soaking up butter, honey, or jam, crumpets are traditionally served toasted and warm alongside a good cup of tea. ☕🍯

Today’s post includes a simple recipe for homemade crumpets and a delightful mock Devonshire cream to spread on top—perfect for a garden picnic or an afternoon pause with your favorite book.

Bring your teacup, your imagination, and a touch of curiosity as we sip slowly and savor the moment. 🌿🧺
🌸✨ Welcome to the 5 Days of The Secret Garden 🌸✨ Welcome to the 5 Days of The Secret Garden! This week, we explore the timeless beauty of The Secret Garden with five enchanting days of creativity, nature, and wonder! Inspired by Frances Hodgson Burnett’s beloved novel, each day invites you to explore the story’s magic through poetry, tea, nature, and art.

Then we’ll find comfort and delight in “The Old-Fashioned Garden” by John Russell Hayes—a charming celebration of simple flowers and the peaceful joy of a lovingly tended garden. 🌷💚

Let’s open the gate together and rediscover the magic that grows in secret places. 🌱✨
