Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild & precious life?

– Mary Oliver

You only get one chance with your children’s education. Tell me, what is it you plan to do with these wild & precious days?

You want to provide them with a sumptuous feast of ideas through living books, history, and nature studies.

You want to enrich their lives with Shakespeare, classical music, and fine arts. Yet art is that one “extra” that usually gets tossed aside. And let’s be honest, you’ve never really found an art program that brings delight to your kids and teens.

Imagine providing them with the rich education you’ve always dreamed of.

Imagine giving them the freedom to explore and experiment with many different art mediums and gain confidence in their artistic abilities.

Imagine creating a “gallery wall” in your home from all the beautiful art produced around your kitchen table.

I believe that with the right tools, you can instill a love of art, beauty, & creativity in your kids – even in the midst of your crazy, busy life.

Alisha Gratehouse is a wonderful instructor! My son has loved her lessons, not only for the actual instruction, but because she makes these projects so fun. I found him laughing out loud in his lessons so many times I lost count! He’s enjoying the art, but he’s also enjoying her as a teacher. That’s an added bonus!

I am beyond thrilled that I found your art curriculum. My kids and I are loving it! My mom and I have been shopping for art supplies and staying up late doing your paintings. I kinda forgot it was for the kids! I am so proud of my own paintings that I keep telling my kids that I think I am related to Vincent van Gogh! Lol!

My children and I are absolutely LOVING each lesson we have done!! My 6-year old has come to me multiple times a day since we signed up, asking to do another lesson with you. Thank You for offering such wonderful art lessons! Fun and memorable learning, thanks to you! I am so glad to have found you and your amazing work!

Hi, I’m Alisha!

As an artsy-craftsy mom, I embraced the Charlotte Mason educational philosophy early on. (Somehow I doubt Miss Mason was as messy as me, but…let’s cut ourselves some slack as creatives, right?)

Living books, poetry, and nature studies drummed out the rhythm of our days…but how on earth was I supposed to make art study happen on a regular basis? Sure, there were local art teachers (pricey), a handful of video courses (which unfortunately made my kids snore), and the stack of art books on my table loomed dangerously beside my antique table lamp.

I didn’t just want to expose my kids to art—I wanted them to experience it.

It wasn’t until my own kids were older that I finally had the time and bandwidth to do something about what I believed was a gaping void in the area of online art for kids and teens. So I pulled out my art supplies, grabbed a camera, and finally put my years of creative “me time” with a paintbrush to use. I began offering a full art curriculum (playful exploration of art + art appreciation) to other busy moms…and guess what?

My own kids (now 26, 24, and 20) have embraced the messy, fun art life too…and together we’re helping other moms like you explore art with your kids in a fun, memory-making way.

When you become a member of the Masterpiece Society community, your children will learn to appreciate art, become skillful in multiple techniques & mediums, and learn to express themselves creatively.

Our Story

We are a unique homeschool family-owned and operated company.

As an artist and veteran homeschool mom of three, Alisha Gratehouse knows what it’s like to be faced with dull, dry and utterly BORING art lessons for her kids. In fact, she homeschooled for over 19 years and remembers being incredibly frustrated with the lack of FUN and engaging art curricula available to the homeschool community. She desperately wanted something more than books or programs that only taught one art medium.

So in 2014, she decided to use two of the gifts God gave her: a love of art & a love of kids (plus a wee bit of silliness) to create her own art courses and fill the gaping void in the area of homeschool art.

Today the company has truly become a family affair.

Two of her adult children, Olivia and Alec, work full time for the Masterpiece Society as art teachers, curriculum writers, podcasting, tech support (and whatever else she makes them do). Her other son, Liam, has helped with research, writing, and website design. As homeschool graduates, they each have a unique perspective and a true understanding of what kids and teens enjoy (as well as what turns them off or discourages them). And recently, Alisha’s husband, Jason, joined the team to help her create their latest series: Art Through the Ages: Hands On Art History.

The Masterpiece Society doesn’t just offer art lessons; it offers a complete curriculum: art training, art expression, art history and art appreciation!

The Masterpiece Society isn’t limited to only one art medium either. It offers graphite, charcoal, inks, acrylics (& oils), watercolors, soft pastels, oil pastels, mixed media collage, sculpting, mosaics, reliefs, handicrafts and MORE!
