Art Through the Ages: Eastern Art

$65.00

Any culture that is not related to Western Civilization (the people of Western Europe and North America) is referred to as non-Western. In this course, we’ll focus on Eastern Art: the Art of China, Japan, and India. These great civilizations used art for many purposes such as worship with religious symbols and motifs, the afterlife, status, magic, politics, and more.

Painting, sculpture, and architecture evolved in different ways in the East than in the West. Much of the artwork produced in these societies can be difficult to understand without understanding their particular cultures. By combining this art course with history and geography studies, it will help better understand their art.

In Eastern Art, we will create the following:

  1. Indus Valley Tile in Clay
  2. Chinese Botanical in Acrylics
  3. Chinese Landscape in Soft Pastels
  4. Japanese Sculpture in Clay
  5. Japanese Botanical in Sumi Ink
  6. Japanese Paper Marbling in Acrylics
  7. Indian Batik with Acrylics

*PLEASE NOTE: Due to the various mediums, details, and skills involved in each lesson, this course is recommended for ages 13 and up.
