Step-by-Step: Creating a Splatter Painting!
Step 1: Spray Your Acrylics
After choosing the colors of the acrylics you wish to use, spray down your paint palette with water to make the paints runny.
Step 2: Paint Your Colors
Starting with your darker colors, paint a simply shape or pattern onto your canvas. In the tutorial, Alisha painted circles, but you can paint squares, triangles, diamonds, hearts, etc. Start layering your colors, painting them right over the top of each other. Layer your color, filling in as much of the empty white space as you can. (But mix in some white if you want to lighten the colors.)
Step 3: Add Dots
With your leftover paints, tap your brush to make dots and fill in the white space or add extra textures to your patterns.
Step 4: Add Splatters
Take a clean toothbrush and dip it in your wet paints. Use your fingers to flick the toothbrush bristles, splattering the paint onto the canvas. Alternate your colors, creating all different sorts of splatters, and don’t forget your white to make a pop of brightness! Alternatively, you can soak up a paintbrush with paint and water before tapping it against your fingers to create bigger splatters. Allow to dry completely, then admire your finished piece!
