Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous artists in Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous artists in history. Why? Because he helped develop a brand new style of art that no one had ever seen before: Cubism. Cubism is a distinct abstract style of art that breaks down an image to its most basic geometric shapes and fragments. In his portraits, Picasso depicted faces from multiple perspectives at the same time, so that while the figure might be sitting at an angle, their features are distorted as if they are facing forward.

In this art lesson, we take inspiration from Pablo Picasso, painting a self-portrait in his Cubism art style using bright colors and bold shapes! We also recreate one of his amazing paintings! Find this lesson and more in our Selfie Portraits art course! 🎨

This lesson was inspire by Frank Stella’s Protract This lesson was inspire by Frank Stella’s Protractor Series, a set of colorful, geometric paintings he started in 1967. These artworks stand out because they use big, sweeping curves, repetitive patterns, and bright, eye-catching colors.

What I love about Stella’s work is the way he combines precise geometry with bold, exciting colors. His paintings feel both organized and full of energy at the same time. By using arcs and overlapping shapes, we can play with both math and art to create something unique! Try out this homeschool art lesson and more in our GeomARTry course, bringing math to life through art!

In honor of A.A. Milne's birthday, January 18th, w In honor of A.A. Milne's birthday, January 18th, we have created a special treat for you! A.A. Milne was the author of the beloved children's series Winnie the Pooh, which he based on his son's childhood toys. In this lesson, we create a piece inspired by the bookish aspect of Winnie the Pooh!

Winnie the Pooh and his dear friend Piglet enjoy spending time together — especially when a small smackeral is involved. And so, as they head over to Christopher Robin’s house, they step across from one page to another in order to reach their destination on the other side.
