Homeschool ARTchetypes

Which ARTchetype does your homeschool identify with?

Here’s a fun little tongue-in-cheek “quiz” we’ve put together to help you decide where you’d like to go with your art education this year. The goal of the Masterpiece Society Studio is to take your homeschool from the “Starving Artist” ARTchetype to the “Emerging Artist” and eventually become the “Thriving Artist” ARTchetype.

I’d like to introduce you to Masterpiece MannyHe’s our adorable new mascot that my daughter, Olivia, created to help determine where your homeschool is in relation to its artistic journey.

HINT: Since you’re a Studio member, your homeschool has already advanced from the “Starving Artist” to the “Emerging Artist.YAY, YOU!!!

In the “Emerging Artist” section, you will find 4 separate Art Paths you can choose from, each with its own PDF that works alongside our Masterpiece Society Studio Calendar:

1. The Art Education Path
2. The Art History Path
3. The Art Therapy Path
4. The Art Play Path

But as always, you’re free to pick and choose from any Masterpiece Society Studio course or lesson you’d like. 🙂 And the most important thing is to have FUN and make memories with your kids!

STARVING ARTIST ARTchetype – No real Art experience

You have never incorporated Art into your homeschool. You and your kids are starving for a creative outlet to detox or help you come back from burnout.

It’s possible your homeschool may fall into one of the following Starving Artist categories:

1. Tortured artist – No art whatsoever. You torture you kids by only making time for the three Rs, the Bible, and Latin (at least your kids can quote the Pater Noster). But deep down, you know there’s something missing. You’d love to give your kids a creative outlet because you know that creativity enhances their ability to learn all the other subjects.

2. Crafty Con artist – No real art mediums (acrylics, watercolors, pastels), basically “Art time” consists of coloring sheets of great artwork or Pinterest-craftsy projects with lots of glue and TONS of glitter (your 6-year old daughter’s favorite art supply). You’re ready to stop the pretending to do Art and allow your children to experiment with real art mediums.

3. Escape artist – No time for art, because you’re never at home. Your family is constantly on the go with outside activities. Basically, you car-school (and who really wants to set up an easel in your backseat?) You’re ready to slow down a bit and commit to a real Art program for your children to leisurely enjoy.

If you previously identified with one of these “ARTchetypes” then don’t despair! In fact, you’re in a great place, because you recognize the need to begin including Art in your homeschool on a regular basis. You’re actually already in the next category of the Emerging Artist homeschool – It’s a StARTist.

EMERGING ARTISTS ARTchetype – Some Art experience

You have included some Art in your homeschool. Art does have a place, just not the emphasis you want it to have. It’s possible your homeschool may fall into one of the following categories:

1. It’s a StARTist – You recognize the need to incorporate art into your children’s school schedule, so you’re at a great starting point! You want a quality art education for your kids, but it needs to be something you don’t have to put a lot of time and effort into. And it especially needs to be something you don’t have to teach.

You want the basic Art Education Path which will give you direction for your homeschool art program, plus instruction for your children.

2. Pretty SmARTist – Your kids have some knowledge of art history, famous artworks, and are familiar with a few of the master artists (mainly through picture study or free art-themed printables), but no real experience in creating their own masterpieces.

You want the Art History Path so your kids get real experience with various art mediums (preferably in keeping with the master artists).

3. Fall ApARTist – You try to include Art, but many lessons you’ve tried have been too difficult or so frustrating that they led to a major meltdown with one or more of your children.

You need the Art Therapy Path which includes easy lessons with simple, step-by-step instruction + TEMPLATES and/or guidance for each of your children’s specific skill levels.

4. Happy HeARTist – You let your kids “do” art with a few mediums (watercolors or chalk pastels) because you realize their need to create and express themselves is real. You also know that creating brings them immense joy, but you don’t really know where to go next.

You need the Art Play Path: fun, lightly structured art lessons + direction and a tad bit of accountability. Eventually, your kids will go on to Art School in order to learn the basic techniques to express the art that’s deep within them.

If you identify with one of these “ARTchetypes” and you’re ready to go deeper, then you’re in the right place, because Masterpiece Society Studio can give you the direction, instruction, and accountability you need for your homeschool to become a Triving Artist.

THRIVING ARTIST ARTchetype – Rich Art experience:

Your family partakes of Art on a regular basis – it’s part of your routine. You and your kids always look forward to the next project and no one wants to miss out on Art because it brings your family tremendous joy! You’ve created a “Gallery Wall” of Art to show off the entire family’s work. And you can’t wait for the next new lesson or course to be uploaded to the membership site.

You’re planning an Art Exhibition in the near future to show off your children’s AMAZING work.
